Like the power transformer on the electric post, the ignition
coil is a step up transformer, 12-volt is step up to 20,000 - 40,000 volts. A direct current voltage of 12-volt energized the primary coil and a pulsating high voltage is produced in the secondary coil.The purpose of the ballast resistor ( white ceramic block on the side of the ignition coil) is to reduce the primary coil voltage and protect the ignition coil from overheating.











The vacuum and the centrifugal advancer of the distributor help in timing the spark of the spark plugs to attain maximum power. You can test the vacuum advancer if its working by sipping its hose, the contact-point assembly must move counter-clockwise as you sip the hose or else there is a problem ( defective hose or stack-up vacuum advancer).


The function of the distributor is to distribute the collapsing high voltage from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. The higher is the voltage, the hotter is the spark and complete combustion is attained.
The electronic ignition module is mounted on the chassis and it's waterproof ( see the aluminum heat sink ).





This is the low voltage side (12-volt) of the conventional ignition system wherein the high primary coil current  passes thru the contact-point which causes early burn-out (bulutong). By adding the electronic module between the ignition coil and distributor, the high primary coil current will be diverted to the electronic module thus no arcing or spark will occur in the contact-point due to almost zero  current passing thru it. Less maintenance and tune-up, increase in power and speed, cleaner combustion and longer engine life is attained. Quick start means longer battery life.

To be installed only on old model cars with contact-point on distributor such as Toyota ( e2, 2-R, 5-R, 12-R, 3-K, 4-k, 5-K, Tamaraw FX, Corolla, Corona, Crown, Celica, Lite Ace, etc.); Mitsubishi ( Galant, Saturn, Box Type Lancer, L-300, GLI/GLXI, Lancer, Lite Ace, etc.)  Nissan Datsun, Vanette, Daihatsu, Volkswagen, Mazda, Mustang, and other old model cars.

Note that the condenser or capacitor is disconnected and no longer necessary.
